Candy Coated Apples

Recommended Apple Variety:
Empire, Braeburn, Ida Red
While many prefer a tart and firm candy apple, you can substitute with your favorite Michigan Apple variety
Ingredients:
- 4 medium Michigan Apples of your choice
- 4 wooden craft sticks
- 1 package (6 oz., 1 cup) milk chocolate morsels
- 1 teaspoon shortening
- 1/2 cup toasted coconut, optional

Directions:
- Wash and thoroughly dry Apples. Remove stems.
- Insert wooden stick into stem end of each Apple. Set aside.
- In microwave or small saucepan, over low heat, melt together chocolate and shortening, stirring constantly.
- Remove from heat. Spread evenly over Apples and sprinkle with coconut, if desired.
- Place on waxed paper lined baking sheet. Cool at room temperature until set.
