MSU Bavarian Apple Torte

Recommended Apple Variety:

Ida Red

Ingredients – Crust:
  • ¾ cup + 2 tbsp. all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup or 1 stick margarine or butter, softened
  • ¼ cup Pioneer® sugar
  • ½ tsp. vanilla
Ingredients – Filling:
  • 1 8-oz. package of cream cheese, softened
  • 1 whole egg
  • ¼ cup Pioneer® sugar
  • ¼ tsp. vanilla
  • ¼ tsp. ground cinnamon
Ingredients – Topping:
  • 1 small Michigan Ida Red Apple, peeled, cored and sliced
  • 2 tbsp. Pioneer® sugar
  • 1/8 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup sliced almonds
Directions – Crust:
  1. Blend flour, margarine, sugar, and vanilla until a soft dough forms.
  2. Press into an 8-inch spring-form pan sprayed with cooking spray.
  3. Cover the bottom and about 1 ½ inches on the sides of the pan to form a nice crust.
Directions – Filling:
  1. Blend cream cheese, egg, sugar, vanilla, and cinnamon until a smooth batter forms.
  2. Pour batter onto crust.
Directions – Topping and Bake:
  1. Preheat oven to 350° F.
  2. Combine apples with the sugar and cinnamon; toss to coat.
  3. Place the apple mixture on top of the filling.
  4. Sprinkle almonds on top of apple mixture.
  5. Bake at 350° F for 60–70 minutes.
  6. Cool, and remove from pan to serving plate.
  7. Refrigerate until service.
