MSU Bavarian Apple Torte

Ida Red
Ingredients – Crust:
- ¾ cup + 2 tbsp. all-purpose flour
- ½ cup or 1 stick margarine or butter, softened
- ¼ cup Pioneer® sugar
- ½ tsp. vanilla
Ingredients – Filling:
- 1 8-oz. package of cream cheese, softened
- 1 whole egg
- ¼ cup Pioneer® sugar
- ¼ tsp. vanilla
- ¼ tsp. ground cinnamon
Ingredients – Topping:
- 1 small Michigan Ida Red Apple, peeled, cored and sliced
- 2 tbsp. Pioneer® sugar
- 1/8 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 1/2 cup sliced almonds
Directions – Crust:
- Blend flour, margarine, sugar, and vanilla until a soft dough forms.
- Press into an 8-inch spring-form pan sprayed with cooking spray.
- Cover the bottom and about 1 ½ inches on the sides of the pan to form a nice crust.
Directions – Filling:
- Blend cream cheese, egg, sugar, vanilla, and cinnamon until a smooth batter forms.
- Pour batter onto crust.
Directions – Topping and Bake:
- Preheat oven to 350° F.
- Combine apples with the sugar and cinnamon; toss to coat.
- Place the apple mixture on top of the filling.
- Sprinkle almonds on top of apple mixture.
- Bake at 350° F for 60–70 minutes.
- Cool, and remove from pan to serving plate.
- Refrigerate until service.
