Lansing, Mich. – Michigan Department of Agriculture Director Dan Wyant, State Senator Wayne Kuipers and a host of state and agricultural officials will gather Monday to officially send off Michigan's first-ever shipment of apples to Mexico. Michigan Apple Committee Executive Director Denise Yockey will describe why the export, which required eight years of efforts, is so important to the state's apple growers.

The apples will be packed and shipped from Dietrich Brothers Orchard in Conklin, northwest of Grand Rapids. The event will begin at 10 a.m.

The Michigan Apple Committee is a grower-funded nonprofit association devoted to promotion, education and research activities to distinguish the Michigan apple and encourage its consumption by consumers in Michigan and around the world. For more information, visit www.michiganapples.com.
