The Michigan Apple industry sold a record number of apples in October, according to the Michigan Apple Committee (MAC).  In October, the state shipped 1,326,639 cases of apples, according to figures received yesterday from the USDA’s Market News Service.  This October’s shipped volume breaks the all-time record set in 2009, by 28,000 cartons.

“October is always the largest apple-shipping month, and this October the figures reflect a large harvest, excellent pack-out rates, and infrastructure improvements that allow bigger through-put,” said Denise Donohue, Executive Director of the Michigan Apple Committee.  “We are shipping at least a dozen varieties of Michigan Apples in trays, poly bags, mesh bags, totes and other packages.”

The Michigan Apple Committee is a grower-funded, nonprofit organization devoted to promotion, education and research activities to distinguish the Michigan Apple and encourage its consumption by consumers in Michigan and around the world.  MAC represents 900 family-operated commercial apple orchards.  For more information visit MichiganApples.com.
