(DeWitt, Mich.) – Zehnder’s of Frankenmuth will host the 7th annual Michigan Apple pie and recipe contests in January. Cooks and bakers are sought to enter the contests, to win cash prizes and much more! Grand Prize—for Michigan’s Best Apple Pie—is a trip to compete in the National Pie Championship in Celebration, Florida, in spring 2012.
Michigan’s Best Apple Pie and Michigan’s Favorite Apple Recipe contests will be featured at the 2012 Zehnder’s Snowfest on Wednesday, January 25th, sponsored by the Michigan Apple Committee, Pioneer Sugar, The Maytag Store and WSGW.
“We are excited to see what new Michigan Apple recipes come our way this year,” said Denise Donohue, Executive Director of the Michigan Apple Committee. “It’s always a fun event to see how people use our Michigan Apples in new creative ways!”
Amateur bakers (no professionals allowed) must submit their recipes for preliminary judging by December 31, 2011 to be eligible. A panel of chefs will review the entries and decide those worthy of competing the day of the event. Both contests will take place in the warming tent in the Zehnder’s parking lot.
Bakers of the top three best pies (recipes must include Pioneer Sugar) will receive $500, $200 and $100, respectively. Awards for the general apple recipes are $250, $150 and $100. For rules and entry form, visit MichiganApples.com/contests.
