Detroit Eastern Market has day of family fun
DeWitt, Mich. – The Michigan Apple Committee and Detroit Eastern Market Corporation will host the second annual Michigan Apple Festival this Saturday, with a range of family fun activities.
“Apple growers are enjoying a great fall and a bountiful harvest,” said Denise Donohue, Executive Director of the Michigan Apple Committee, which represents Michigan 900 family farms. “Teaming up with the historic Eastern Market and telling the many families and people in Southeast Michigan about Michigan’s apple industry is very important to our growers.”
The event will take place at the Detroit Eastern Market on Saturday, Oct. 8 from 9 am to 3 pm. The day will be filled with events including an apple pie baking contest, a visit by Michigan’s Apple Queen, photos in apple cut-outs and much more.
The 4-foot tall apples that were decorated by local artists this summer are still on display. They are located in Sheds 2 and 3 for families to view. The public has been voting for their favorite apple, and the winning apple will be announced at the Fall Apple Gala on October 14th.
“We encourage everyone who views the apples at the festival to go to MIAppleTrail.com and vote for their favorite one,” Donohue said.
Detroit Eastern Market is located between Gratiot and Mack, bordered by St. Aubin and the Interstate-75 service drive. The market is open to the general public on Saturdays from 5 am to 5pm and on Tuesdays from 11 am to 7 pm. Get more information about Detroit Eastern Market Corp. at detroiteasternmarket.com.
