Michigan Apple Committee Announces 2025 Research Funding
Lansing, Mich. – During their March board meeting, the Michigan Apple Committee approved funding for ten research projects that address challenges in producing apples.
Every year projects are selected by a subcommittee that aligns with the research priorities of MAC. The goal is to select projects that improve profitability and production and explore new markets. MAC aims to back innovative research that boosts the reputation of Michigan Apples.
“MAC welcomes proposals from various research institutions and centers of excellence. We are fortunate to have Michigan State University’s agricultural expertise nearby, fostering collaboration among institutions and colleagues,” said Diane Smith, executive director of Michigan Apple Committee.
The research subcommittee is made up of growers selected by the board of directors. They evaluate all the submitted research project proposals and recommend the funding to the board.
In 2025, the board allocated $249,995 in funding for the ten projects that range from studying lenticel breakdown in apples to developing frost resistance. The individual projects are listed below.
The Michigan Apple Committee is a grower-funded nonprofit organization devoted to marketing, education and research activities to distinguish the Michigan Apple and encourage its consumption in Michigan and around the world. To learn more, visit MichiganApples.com.
