LANSING, Mich. —The Michigan Apple Committee (MAC) has hired a new Account Manager, who will facilitate the sale of Michigan apples in retail stores. Edwin “Cam” Harrington of Douglasville, Georgia will join the staff this month as account manager. Mike Bardon of Grand Ledge, Michigan also works for MAC in this capacity.
“I am looking forward to joining the Michigan Apple Committee staff,” Harrington said. “I have worked in produce all my life but I am excited to be focused on the apple segment and to be working with retailers across the U.S., bringing them programs that showcase this high-quality product.”
Most recently Harrington worked as the director of value added marketing for Hugh H. Branch, Inc., a sweet corn distributor based in Florida. Prior to that, he spent eight years with food brokerage firm Sholl Group II in Minnesota, developing relationships with large retailers. Harrington also spent 30 years working for Supervalu, Inc. in various capacities within produce.
Harrington will begin work with MAC on March 24. The organization is working now to finalize marketing plans for the 2014 apple harvest.
“This is great timing, as we firm up our marketing plans for the coming year, Cam will be able to contribute to that process,” said MAC Executive Director Diane Smith. “One thing we will be focusing on is the consumer research we have done over the past few years that shows a strong consumer preference for Michigan grown apples. That is powerful data for Cam, and our other account manager, Mike Bardon, to take to retail customers.”
The Michigan Apple Committee is a grower-funded nonprofit organization devoted to marketing, education and research activities to distinguish the Michigan apple and encourage its consumption in Michigan and around the world. For more information, visit www.MichiganApples.com.
