Yankee Spy Apple Pie – 3rd Place 2010 Apple Pie Contest

3rd Place in 2010 Michigan’s Best Apple Pie Contest

Crust:

  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups flour
  • ½ cup cold water

Filling:

  • 6 large Michigan Apples
  • 1 cup Pioneer sugar
  • 1/3 cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon nutmeg

Heat oven to 350 degrees.

For crust, cut shortening, flour and salt into small particles.  Sprinkle in water, tossing with a fork until moistened.  Roll half of dough to size of bottom crust.

For filling, combine ingredients and add to pie shell.  Cover with top crust and crimp edges.  Bake for 1 hour and 15 minutes.
