Carol Socier of Bay City will represent Michigan next week at the National Pie Championships in Orlando, Florida. As the Grand Prize winner of the Michigan's Best Apple Pie Contest in January, the Michigan Apple Committee is sending Socier to compete against amateur pie bakers from around the country.

Socier's pie, the “Snowflake Apple Pecan Crumb Pie” beat out over 60 other contestants for the Grand prize at the Michigan's Best Apple Pie Contest sponsored by the Michigan Apple Committee and Zehnder's of Frankenmuth. Other sponsors were Michigan Sugar and WSGW Radio.

In Orlando, Socier will be baking her pie on-site with Michigan apples and sugar purchased here before the event. The amateur pies are baked on Friday, April 21, and judged on Saturday, April 22. Winners will be announced Saturday evening.

“I'm anxious and excited to be representing Michigan at this event,” said Socier. “It has been a whirlwind of excitement since I won in Frankenmuth, and I can't wait for the day of the contest to arrive!”

Crisco is the main sponsor of the event, and the Michigan Apple Committee is a supporting sponsor.

The Michigan Apple Committee is a grower-funded nonprofit organization devoted to promotion, education and research activities to distinguish the Michigan apple and encourage its consumption by consumers in Michigan and around the world. For more information, visit www.MichiganApples.com.
