(DeWitt, Mich.) –  Amateur cooks are encouraged to enter the 2nd Annual Michigan Apple Recipe Contest, which seeks to find the most outstanding recipes featuring Michigan Apples.

Entries are judged by a panel of professional chefs based on several factors including creativity and use of Michigan Apples.  Three winners will each receive a KitchenAid® mixer, courtesy of the Michigan Apple Committee (MAC) – sponsor of the contest.

“Apples can be used in any dish from breakfast to dinner,” said Denise Donohue, MAC executive director.  “It’s our mission through this contest to unearth some exciting new ways to incorporate this locally grown fruit into everyday meals.”

Contest rules are available at MichiganApples.com/contests.  Entries should prominently feature Michigan Apples and include suggested apple varieties.

Winning recipes from last year’s contest were Cheesy Apple Quiche, Roasted Rome & Feta Salad and Sticky Toffee Apple Crisp with Candied Bacon Streusel.  Photos of those submitting the winning entries along with their recipes were featured on Michigan Apple recipe cards distributed to retailers across the nation and farm markets in Michigan. The contest is open to amateur cooks.  Professional chefs are not permitted to enter.
