Tulip Time and Frankenmuth Parades

Parade season has begun and Jessica and I have been busy traveling around the state.

In May we attended the Tulip Time parade in Holland. Being a Hope College student, it was especially fun to have a parade on my home turf. Throughout the parade I heard shouts from my classmates, professors and friends. Despite the windy weather, the float held up well through the parade and we took home the award for the best designed float.

Although we had fun with the Dutch in Holland, I soon realized it’s the Germans that really know how to have a good time. The high energy at the Bavarian Festival in Frankenmuth made for an enjoyable parade in mid June. The Sunday afternoon parade flooded the streets with people of all ages, who were all looking to enjoy the beautiful weather and watch floats drive by. Many onlookers raised their steins in salute to Michigan Apple as we passed by. The parade was a success, but before we headed home, Jessica and I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to have some famous Frankenmuth fried chicken.
