Nice Choice, Martha Stewart!

I was pleasantly surprised to pick up a copy of Martha Stewart Living magazine yesterday at the local book store. Now this is not a magazine I normally peruse so don’t go jumping to assumptions about me. While I’m certainly not Holly-homemaker or anything remotely close, I confess that I do enjoy making Halloween costumes for my twin boys. There’s something gratifying in seeing them dressed in homemade costumes different from all the rest.

So the jack-o-lantern on the magazine cover prompted me to think Martha – the queen of craftiness – would have some costume ideas to spark my creative juices.

As I sat there turning the pages in search of the Halloween stuff, I happened upon an article on apples. Pretty normal for this time of year. But as soon as I started reading, I knew this was not your run-of-the-mill feature. No, this was far superior, exceptionally well done…Martha and her editorial staff had really outdone themselves this time.

Why? Of all the apple growers to feature on the pages of this popular magazine distributed to hundreds of thousands of people, there was one of our very own -a Michigan apple grower by the name of Herb Teichman.

Mr. Teichman is known throughout the state for the vast array of heirloom apples he grows on his orchard – Tree-Mendus Fruit Farm – in Eau Claire, Michigan.

Don’t know how Martha managed to select Mr. Teichman (which reinforces that she really does have exceptionally fine taste), but I plan on investigating further. I’ll let you know what I discover. In the meantime, you should pick up a copy of the October issue of Martha Stewart Living before they’re all gone. This truly is a keepsake edition for those who love heirloom apples and all those who enjoy Michigan Apples.
