Chicago, Ill – Julia Baehre Hersey has been re-elected to the Board of Trustees of the USApple Association, the national trade association of the apple industry in the United States. Hersey was also recently elected for the first time to USApple's 9-member Executive Committee.
Hersey, who was raised in a fruit growing family on the “Ridge” north of Grand Rapids, is also an owner of Those Hersey Brothers, an apple growing, packing, shipping, and sales organization, located in Casnovia. She also serves as Chair of the Michigan Apple Committee and as Vice President of the Muskegon County Farm Bureau.
Her role on the USApple Board of Trustees is to help direct programs to research health benefits of apples, national public relations and communications activities, to establish industry standards and to develop apple-related public policy and government relations.
Two other Michigan apple growers – Bryan Bixby of Berrien Springs and Barry Winkel of Benton Harbor – also serve on the USApple Board of Trustees. Hersey is the only Michigan grower on the board's Executive Committee.
The Michigan Apple Committee is a grower-funded nonprofit organization devoted to promotion, education and research activities to distinguish the Michigan apple and encourage its consumption by consumers in Michigan and around the world. For more information, visit www.MichiganApples.com.
