Michigan Apple Queen to Attend National Coast Guard Festival |
|
| Grand Haven, Mich. - The National Coast Guard is celebrating 216 years of service at the 2006 National Coast Guard Festival. Ashley Wright, 2006 Michigan Apple Queen will participate in that celebration by appearing in the 2006 Grand Parade with the Michigan apple court. The Grand Parade will be held on August 5, 2006, and is one of the largest parades in Michigan. It will also be broadcast by the local ABC affiliate on August 6, 2006. Wright, of Belding, will be joined by first runner-up Jessica Rasch of Conklin and second runner-up Sarah Heffron of Belding. The "Apple Land"-themed Michigan apple industry float was designed by 2003 Michigan Apple Queen Janna Klein. "I am really looking forward to attending the National Coast Guard Festival. Grand Haven is such a unique town and the people are always so fun and welcoming! I know that the court and I are going to enjoy the parade and festival so much!" said Wright. The Grand Parade at the National Coast Guard Festival is one of more than a dozen events the apple industry's court will be involved in this summer. The Michigan Apple Committee is a grower-funded nonprofit organization devoted to promotion, education and research activities to distinguish the Michigan apple and encourage its consumption by consumers in Michigan and around the world.
