Forty amateur bakers were selected from more than 100 entries to participate in the contest. Entries are judged in three major categories: taste, texture and appearance.
Sponsors of the contest are Michigan Apple Committee, Pioneer Sugar, Zehnder’s, WSGW and Bavarian Maytag.
The winners each received $500, $250 and $100 respectively, along with several other prizes.
The contest kicks off Zehnder’s Snowfest, a national ice-carving competition that runs through this weekend in downtown Frankenmuth.
