Hello, I’m Amber Nyblad the 2009 Michigan Apple Queen.
It has been nice to finally relax after the busy week of final exams and the apple queen pageant. Although it was a little stressful, I had a lot of fun. It was nice to get to know the other contestants during the afternoon. The chaperones were great with easing our nerves and guiding us through the day. We were given plenty of time to make our final preparations in our hotel rooms. This was fun for me because I had four apple queen veterans helping me, two of my aunts, my mom, and my sister. Their excitement really encouraged me. The interviews weren’t as bad as I thought, but the pageant was a little nerve-racking. It was worth it though when the pageant was finally over and I was able to visit with all my family and friends. Although I was entirely exhausted after making the trek to the Marriot with the heels and gown, the pizza party with the 2008 court was a good time.
I am excited for the year ahead of me as the Michigan Apple Queen. After all the snow so far this December, I am sure I will be ready for the pie contest in Orlando this winter. I am looking forward to all the parades as well. It will be fun to experience all the different traditions of the various festivals around Michigan. Most of all I am looking forward to meeting new people. Talking about apples comes very easy to me and I enjoy discussing issues with those I come into contact with. This year will be one of learning and growth and I am honored to have the opportunity to represent Michigan Apples in the upcoming year.

This is so neat!

I am curious about what makes a girl an apple queen–knowledgable about apple farming?

Amber,
I teach preschool at Kent City and last year we had the apple queen come in and read a book to the children. The kids were so excited to have a real queen come and visit.
We would love to have you come in this year. Can we set something up for this fall? You can contact me via email austinj@kent-city.k12.mi.us
Thanks,
Janee’ Austin

I forgot about this pic of you and me before the parade of the national cherry festival until I was going through my pics! I had fun that day.
Thank You,
