Best All American Apple Crumb Topping Pie

Ingredients:PIE CRUST (10-inch pie plate, use extra crust for decorating top):
  • 2 1/2 C all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. Pioneer sugar
  • 1 C butter, cold, cut into small pieces
  • 1/4 to 1/2 C cold water
PIE INGREDIENTS:
  • 1/2 C Pioneer sugar
  • 1/8 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 C Pioneer golden light brown sugar, packed
  • 3 T all-purpose flour
  • 6 C Michigan Ida red Apples, peeled & thinly sliced
  • 1/2 C raisins/ dried cherries mixed
  • 3 T cornstarch
  • 1/2 C pecans, chopped
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 C caramel
CRUMB TOPPING:
  • 1 C Pioneer golden light brown sugar
  • 1/2 C all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 C quick cooking rolled oats
  • 1/2 C butter
  • 1/2 C almonds, finely chopped

Crust - combine the flour, salt and Pioneer sugar in food processor. Add butter to processor. Add water and mix. 

Pie Ingredients - in a large mixing bowl, stir together the Pioneer sugar's, flour, cinnamon, salt and cornstarch. Add Michigan Ida red Appple slices and gently toss until well coated. Add raisins, dried cherries and pecans. Add to pie crust. Dribble caramel over filling.

Crumb Topping - stir together Pioneer golden light brown sugar, flour, almonds, and rolled oats. Cut in butter until topping is course. Top apples and bake at 350°F for approx. 1 - 1 1/2 hours.
