MAC selects winners for the annual Amateur Recipe Contest

LANSING, Mich. — Amateur cooks from all over the United States competed in the Michigan Apple Committee’s amateur recipe contest for a chance to win a KitchenAid®, 4-1/2-Quart, Classic Plus Stand Mixer, which is an approximate retail value of $250.

The contest, held throughout December 2015, asked participants to submit their favorite recipes, which incorporate Michigan Apples. Entries were judged based on taste, originality, preparation and apple significance.

The three winners of the contest are:

  • Baked Apples Stuffed with Cheese Cake – Yasuyo IIzuka, Novi, Michigan
  • Sesame Apple and Lamb Pot Stickers with Savory Apple Dipping Sauce – Mary McSchack, Montgomery, Alabama
  • Apple Jalapeno Barbeque Sauce – Greg Fontenot, The Woodlands, Texas

“We appreciate the creativity of these great cooks and bakers, and all of those who submitted recipes,” said Diane Smith, executive director of the Michigan Apple Committee. “They help us to showcase the remarkable versatility of Michigan Apples. They can be used in so many different applications.”

The 2015 Michigan Apple Committee Amateur Recipe Contest was open to amateur bakers and cooks 18 years of age and older. MAC, with help from culinary experts, selected the top three recipes out of several submissions. Complete information about the contest and official rules can be found at the Michigan Apple Committee website.
